Privacy policy

The controller is the operator of belkoop.be. The registered office and company number will be published on the legal notice page once they are fixed. Until then, contact us through the contact page.

For an account: email address, password (stored only as a hash), name, and the details you choose to add, such as phone, address, date of birth, gender and a short text about you. For a company, also the company name and VAT number. A Belgian company VAT number is checked with the EU VIES service.

For a listing: title, description, price, photos, category, and the address or vehicle details you enter. A phone number on a listing is visible to visitors. Email, VAT number and password are not shown on the public listing.

Technical: an HttpOnly session cookie after login, and a language cookie (nl, en or fr). We do not keep a separate IP profile for advertising.

We process this data to create an account, confirm email, let you sign in, publish listings and limit abuse. The basis is the contract for using the site, and a legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. A VAT check happens because you request a company account.

Account data stays while the account exists. After deletion the account is deactivated and can no longer sign in. A deactivated listing can be permanently removed after 15 days. Verification and reset codes are stored only as a hash and they expire.

We do not sell personal data. Email may be sent through Gmail or an SMTP service. A map on a listing loads Google Maps, so Google may receive the address and technical data from your browser. Hosting and the database sit with the infrastructure that runs the site.

You can ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction and portability, and you can object. You can also complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority, Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels, gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be. Send requests through the contact page.
